How to sew patches on bed clothing

Small pieces of cloth may transform bed clothing so that it looks very trendy, vintage and enticing while keeping its beauty for many years. To sew the patches you will need some cloth material. You can then remove the parts of the material to make the patches and draw basic geometrical forms.

If you go for an ancestral model you will need cloth material as well as large lines, rectangular, circular and square shapes. You may skip over the shapes which have curves if you are not willing to create more complicated bed spreads.

People who make quilts usually use the small pieces of fabric to sew complicated quilts which look like Picasso’s artwork, or just the simple ones. When you collect your patches you have to make artifacts of the fabric you got. Such artifacts are symbols which look like leaves, animal tracks, and so on. All in all, you must use these artifacts to make a quilt, regardless of the model you will choose.

At the beginning you have to choose the artifact. You can either choose a scheme of 9 or 4. patches. This scheme will form patterns covered with geometrical shapes and numbers. A scheme of four patches is regularly the one chosen for ancestral bed clothing. You could also use a scheme of 9 patches but the technique involved is a little different from the previous one.

Four Patched Scheme

When choosing this scheme you should make stripes, squares, etc. The most important thing about the four patch scheme is the fact that it can help you obtain nice bed clothing made of different colors, however you have to install the foundation for your artifact as primary action. It is named the four patched scheme because it uses blocks made of four squares in a sequence to create the effect.

If you choose a nine patch scheme you must design nine squares on your pattern which can be left as they are or divided into fragments. The most important still, is to leave the structure of the nine patches.

For example, you will make your work easier if you take some graphing paper and create a large grid by drawing four, eight and ten quadratic forms; therefore, patchwork will also have a solid base. In order to finish it you still need to fill those grids with a series of symbols.

After putting it on paper, you are ready to make a block. What you have to do is to cut the small pieces of fabric and before starting to make the quilt, you will also have to have already created the templates for the fabric.

Before you begin think of the model you want for your quilt. You can choose different dimensions for your blocks such as 12, 16, 14 or maybe even larger than 18. If you are a beginner when it comes to making bed clothing you should begin by making low blocks.

However, in order to finish the quilt you need to learn more about the process of making borders. After deciding what you want, you should also think of the schemes you would like to use. If you go for the four-patch scheme, the squares should be cut in two inches. If the scheme is bigger you will also need bigger patches.

For example, if you would like to obtain a scheme of 12 blocks, you have to make twelve patches measuring 6 inches each. However, if you chose the nine patches scheme, and blocks of 12 inches, your patches must be cut in squares of 4 inches each.

The next step is to design templates. These are practically the patterns that come from stronger materials. If you wish to make your job easier you should use this template, since they will ensure the amount of work you will do will be decreased.
