Ancient Egyptians are stated to have the honor to make quilts for the first time for their soldiers. The history of quilting is not only limited to Egypt, even America has a great contribution to it. Ever heard of Paper quilting? This innovative idea was originated from America. Quilting has many varied forms but it is generally subdivided into two major types; hand stitched and machine stitched. Usually these days, both the methods are incorporated to make one perfect piece. Quilts are further divided into numerous types depending upon sizes, patterns, fabrics and purposes. Few well known types are Bargello quilts, Appliqué quilts, Chenille quilts, Denim quilts, Picture quilts, Lap quilts, Pet quilts, Block quilts and Baby quilts. Quilting was taught from generations to generations, but from last three decades there are only handful of quilt crafters are left around us. Now a days, it is hard for anyone to just start doing quilting because there are not enough people to give the proper guidelines, but we are thankful to those who have taken their time and have transferred their knowledge in written form, so that books can be published and people can have the proper know how about quilting. For your convenience I've managed to do some research over such books and have written a small list of books and their authors that can be of some help, not only for beginners but also for advanced quilters.
